Remarks by Bro. Anthony

It was an honor to receive the Steve Herring Brotherhood Award at the 6th Annual Dr. Sam Robinson Scholarship Gala. I would like to dedicate this award in memory to Pedro Brito who took me under his wings 5 years ago and was my mentor when I became the Director of the Louisville Sigma Beta Club. I, along with Pedro and other SBC Advisors such as Charles Bowen Sr, Nate Beckham, and Rodney Evans took on the challenge to spend countless hours mentoring our young men. Today we have grown theyouth mentoring program and continue to take them on field trips to college campuses and encourage them to attend college or the armed forces after high school. I thank our new SBC Advisors Allen and Raricka Claycomb and Damon Parker for their innovative skills and talents as we continue to improve our Louisville Sigma Beta Club. I would also like to thank my wife for allowing me to spend countless hours mentoring and planning events with the Epsilon Beta Sigma Louisville Graduate Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

Remarks by Bro. Young

This year for our Dr. Sam Robinson Scholarship Gala our chapter decided to give out awards to the chapter, based on our principles of Brotherhood, Scholarship & Service. I did not know I was receiving an award. I did not know we would name the service award after our late Brother, Brother Pedro Brito, who finally stopped kicking cancer’s butt earlier this year and went on home. Knowing and seeing the kind of man and brother Brother Brito was over the last 10 years made it all the more humbling. I watched Pedro serve on committees and projects in the midst of his illness, never complaining or making excuses. I didn’t know how much he was giving until these last few years. To receive an award bearing the name of one of the true pillars of our chapter meant the world to me and I hope to do it justice.
