The Louisville Alumni Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated Calls for Justice in the Shooting of Ms. Breonna Taylor and Mr. David McAtee in Louisville, Kentucky

June 5, 2020

To Our Community,

We the members of the Louisville Alumni Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc join in the outrage, sadness, and righteous indignation felt by our community and others as we are forced yet again to mourn a life taken by police brutality. We mourn the loss of Breonna Taylor, as well as David McAtee, both murdered unjustly at the hands of those who are supposed to protect and serve. To be clear, these situations are not new nor anomalous and only point to a system that has been at enmity to our community for centuries.

Not only do we, the men of Phi Beta Sigma join you in mourning and bereavement, we also stand with you in the call for justice and reform that we so desperately need both here in our city, as well as the rest of the country. We stand in support of the total abolishment of no-knock warrants except in the most extreme cases, the termination and prosecution of the officers involved in the murders of both Breonna Taylor and David McAtee, and top to bottom review and reform of LMPD policies and procedures.

As a brotherhood of “Conscious Men Actively Serving Our Communities” for over 106 years with the motto “Culture for service, service for humanity” the brothers of Phi Beta Sigma seek to be with you in meaningful effort so that we may help be part of the change we are all striving to see occur.

Yours In Solidarity,
The Men of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.- Epsilon Beta Sigma Chapter
