Epsilon Beta Sigma Chapter Statement on the Breonna Taylor Case

On behalf of the men of the Epsilon Beta Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc.

Words are inept at expressing our outrage, frustration, pain and hurt as we witnessed this most recent miscarriage of justice when the KY Attorney General made his announcement in regard to the Breonna Taylor case. The fact that there was more justice granted to the surrounding walls than to the woman who was executed in her own home is further evidence of how little Black life is worth in this country.

Now more than ever we as Sigma men must do our best to live by our motto, “Culture for service, service to humanity”. We must join arms and stand in gaps with any and everyone who fights for equity, justice and true liberation for Black Lives.

Breonna Taylor cannot become just another name. We cannot let our city, Louisville, KY continue to call itself a progressive city, a ‘Compassionate City’ while heinous acts of institutional and systemic racism produce outcomes like the loss of Ms. Taylor.

Our sincere condolences go out to the family of Breonna Taylor, and we grieve with our community as we mourn the loss of someone who should still be here. We stand with our community sorrowful yet committed in our demands for justice.
